Tudor Black Bay Pro Review

Tudor stole the headlines presenting this new model with aesthetic inspiring from Explorers of the past. The Black Bay Pro sporting a 39-millimetre diameter with a fixed steel bezel and built-in GMT function.

Tudor dominated the news releasing the Black Bay Pro stealing headlines and getting heads turned. This new watch release is the best sport proposition for an entry luxury watch.

It’s a clear inspiration to the older Explorers II 1655 and 16570 – with brushed bezel and fixed GMT, but adding to the mix classic case shape of Tudor their snowflake-like hands.

The Specs

Coming in at 39mm, in satin-brushed and polished case in stainless steel the Black Bay Pro is extremely wearable yet providing the sturdiness for the desk- speleologist amongst us, with a 24-hour graduated fixed bezel in stainless steel the recalls to the 16570 are clear.

With a domed dials in matte black and the yellow snowflake GMT hand the readability is immediate and clear. Carrying the Calibre MT5652, COSC-certified, de Manufacture and a choice of three bracelet: black strap fabric, a rubber and leather or a steel riveted 316L with Tudor "T-fit" clasp with rapid adjustment. The case is 14.6mm thick so it gives it a bolder look and lug width is 20mm allowing you go to on strap shopping spree.

Black Bay Pro shows character, heritage and tool-watch design principles for professional use should you want to take it for a rough day out. Looking at first, there is a clear call on the 1655 Explorer II, and thanks for being a run of the mill for many years the more common 16570 ( the brushed bezel really went mainstream with them due the scarcity of the 1655). The crown is a new design for house of Tudor with a screw-down and water resistance of 200m. But its large guard-less crown gives a solid, robust look with a rugged bezel look. This will make it a distinctive and recognizable immediately recalling to the two more famous Explorers.

With a case at 14.6mm this watch will not hide and will be distinctive.

The Black Bay Pro is truly a bargain for those wanting a watch that shows character, heritage and tool-watch design principles for professional use should you want to take it for a rough day out.

The GMT function

The GMT function is the key in this reference: time is indicated by the "Snowflake" hand, running a complete dial lap for 24 hours. The local time is indicated by the shorter "Snowflake" hand set which sets by jumping hours moving backwards or forwards. With a 3 o'clock date is coupled with the local time hand; when setting the time and passing midnight in retrograde, it instantly jumps to the previous day.
